Solution

Because of the dangers of a storm stronger than Katrina, the best solution is prevention. Preventing the storm itself is the best method to avoid a deadly hurricane. This is because by preventing the hurricane itself, all the damages, costs, and deaths are taken care of. Although, as many climate scientists have predicted, the storm is bound to hit if we continue on the path we are currently diving down during our fight against climate change. If the whole world was to stop burning fossil fuels, and emitting little carbon emissions into the atmosphere, coastal cities like New Orleans do have a chance to combat climate change, and stay dry.

However, to fully prevent storms like this to ever hit New Orleans, it is very important that the 50 year plan is put into place, with all the funds it entails. Currently, the levees and floodwalls are only fit to protect against category 3 storms at most, even with the improvements they made after hurricane Katrina.
